Meghalaya which is situated in the foothills of eastern Sub-Himalayas is a home of various top colleges of India such as IIM Shillong, NIT Shillong, and many more. As per the census 2011, the literacy rate of the state i.e. 74.43% is a bit more than the literacy rate of India i.e. 74.04%. The education system of Meghalaya originated with the discovery of the Khasi Alphabet Script in the year 1842.

The higher education of the Meghalaya state consists of quality education in technology, fashion, teaching and many more streams. There are total 9 universities in this state as per the data furnished by University Grant Commission, out of which North-Eastern Hill University is a central university and rest are private institutions. According to the AISHE data shared by MHRD, the state has 63 colleges. There are 6 Government Colleges, 15 Private Colleges under Deficit in AID, 7 Private Colleges under Adhoc Grant in AID, 7 Private Colleges under Lumpsum Grant in AID and 28 Private Colleges Self Financed.

The Salesians of Don Bosco, an International Society founded by St John Bosco (1815–1888) in Italy, has more than 17,000 members who are known as Salesians of Don Bosco. 2. St. Edmund’s College, Shillong

St. Edmund’s College, often abbreviated as SEC, is an educational institute of the Congregation of Christian Brothers located in Shillong, Meghalaya, India.
